La Jolla Home
San Diego, California
This family renovated and expanded a historic 1920s Mission Revival home on a tight lot with over ten feet of vertical grade change, working with Hoerr Schaudt in Chicago, as well as a local team of architects and interior designers in San Diego for a coordinated complete site transformation.
Hoerr Schaudt re-conceived the entire site, dividing it into private, terraced garden rooms with custom pergolas and fire places, a fountain, a lap pool, a vegetable garden, and new casita.
Each piece of this jewel-box garden is filled with intricate brick paving, tile work, custom metal railings and hedge frames, and thoughtful details around every corner.
The intimate spaces are tuned for specific outdoor activities: dining, studying (two teenagers in the house during construction), swimming, grilling, lounging, and growing veggies.
Paul was the project manager and daily client contact, responsible for proposing, illustrating, and communicating design solutions from initial concepts through construction administration in collaboration with the team at Hoerr Schaudt.
